Cannot drag widgets to sidebar

    All of a sudden I can’t drag widgets to my sidebars. Well I can physically, but as soon as I drop them into place the spinner spins endlessly so clicking on ‘Save’ does not do anything.
    I had been logging on and off as different users to test bbPress which I have just installed. I read somewhere that it might be cache related so purged that, even tried disabling bbPress, still no good. I literally tried a hundred times. Then I had one occasion where it was spinning, I closed the page down and reloaded in a new browser session and the widget was there!! But if I try to add another widget I get the same problem and this time closing the page down does not work either!
    Any advice gratefully received! Thanks.

  • Hello,

    You should start by checking the console for javascript errors when this happens.
    if you don’t know how to do it:
    install firebug in firefox, press f12 and click on console, you will be asked to enable it and reload the page, do so and after the reload, if there is indeed a javascript error, it will show up in there.

    Thanks. Hmmm doing this is showing up 504 (Gateway timeout) errors on admin-ajax.php. Not quite sure why this has suddenly started happening!

    Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    Thanks, I’ve done that and found the offender – Query Monitor. No idea why it’s suddenly happened though. Also had the issue of disabling all plugins loses all widgets – good job I had them all documented!
