Hi, I am very new to custom post types.

i created a custom post type template yesteday and made a test post, which published fine. the only thing i put on the custom post was a title and a video.

but today i want to delete the video and put in a different video. i clicked edit once i was the page that i want to edit, and it took me to the backend and prompted me to edit the template itself, not the content on that page. but idont want to edit the template, i just want to edit the post content.

    any idea what is happening?

    thanks

Not sure what may be going on there.

is this with a full site editing theme?

What happens if you go through the WP admin area, and click into the posts list for the post type and click edit through that screen?

hi, it’s with astra. i thought it might be bc i just updated astra, but this actually happened before i updated astra.

“What happens if you go through the WP admin area, and click into the posts list for the post type and click edit through that screen?” – same thing, i just get into backend – even when i went to create a new post, went to backend.

BUT good new – my husband just deleted the plugin, and reinstalled it – and now it appears to be working fine.

wordpress is so freaking wonky. thanks for your fast response! so it appears to be solved. if not ill rewrite i guess.

Very odd. Curious what your post type slugs are and if they’re conflicting internally with WordPress core somehow.

Anyways, let us know if you need anything else.

if it happens again ill let u know.

iirc, i think we didnt put plural form for the same word in multiple fields (i think u r supposed to?), we’d just put “music” for example on multiple fields. i dont know if that matters…

anyway, i posted this question, and then very soon after my husband said he’d delete the plugin and reinstall it, and that so far has completely solved the problem, he’s been making custom posts for the past hour and can edit them like he should be able to on gutenberg, all good. it reminds me of calling I.T. and they say, “did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?” ??

Labels can be whatever you want them to be, really. Whatever makes the most sense.
