Cannot edit gallery

having updated to the latest version of WP, I’m having trouble editing new and existing galleries.
When editing a page/post, instead of getting the gallery edit icon, only the TEXT version and plain thumbnails is available, even in Visual mode see image link below.

I’ve disabled all plugins, cleared cache and updated everything i could. The issue persists. Please help!

PS: no issues in creating a gallery, only when editing.
