Check that you don’t have any tags, categories, pages, posts, or media attachments that also have that same slug. Usually when this error occurs it’s because the slug is being used somewhere else.

I have a similar problem except that I am trying to add a new pretty link – ‘webinarquicktips.com/18’

I have tried to find a slug with 18 and looked for images etc. but can find nothing. Is there a way to check all slugs at once?

I’m a bit stuck as I have been naming my posts /1, /2, /3 etc. and if I can’t use this one it’s going to be rather annoying!

    Any help gratefully received!

UPDATE: found this related thread – https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-pretty-link-lite-error-this-pretty-link-slug-is-already-taken-using-the-name-of-attachement?replies=7

I have commented out the offending lines and now have been able to create the pretty link I wanted to.

However, will the change I made have have any repercussions later?

e.g. problems when I update the plug in or conflicts in the future?

    Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,
Those changes will be lost anytime you update the plugin. I think I know what’s happening to you though. If you’re using the Appearance -> Menus feature in the WP dashboard this can cause problems with using #’s in the pretty link slugs.
For some reason WP assigns a numerical slug to each menu item. One option is to find the menu item that has the ID of 18 and delete it and recreate it.

Finding the ID’s is easy. Just hover your mouse over the “Cancel” (https://cl.ly/P6mm) button on the menu item and in most browsers something will pop-up near the bottom of the browser showing you the URL of the link you’re hovering over. In that URL should be an ID of that menu item. Look for “edit-menu-item=xx” in the URL, where xx is the ID.

Brilliant – thanks so much. I found exactly what you mentioned – my category of ‘tips’ had ID of 18 which I have now deleted and re-created with a new ID.

    Wonderful!

    Thanks again.

    Kevin
