I am using Google Authenticator and have scanned the WF QR code into it to set it working. I am in the UK and the site is set to London time (currently British Summer Time). However codes are not accepted by WordFence as the time is apparently wrong. My computer, server and mobile are all displaying the same time. I’m aware that the codes change every 30 seconds. Help please!

  • Hello @dawoodward , thank you for reaching out.

Can you navigate to Wordfence > Login security and navigate to the bottom of the page, there should be three times listed, do they all match?

If they do, I would try to test it using an alternative authenticator such as Authy or 1Pass to see if the issue is with Google Authenticator.

If all of this fails can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

Let me know if this helps, thanks again!

Thanks. This is how the times are presented. How do I fix it?

Hello @dawoodward , thank you for sending the diagnostic.

It looks like you have two plugins that have been known to conflict with our 2FA:

    • Cookie Notice & Compliance for GDPR / CCPA (cookie-notice)
    • Limit Login Attempts Reloaded (limit-login-attempts-reloaded).

Try disabling those plugins and testing if that resolves the issue, if not, you can try a different authenticator alongside disabling the plugins.

Let me know if this helps,

Thanks very much for your help with this. I disabled the two plugins you mentioned and installed Authy. You didn’t say anything about deleting the Google Authenticator set-up so I left it in place. Still nothing I’m afraid. I have several other sites and they don’t seem to work either. Not all are using those plug-ins.

    Hello @dawoodward ,

You could try and deduce which device is causing the problem by trying to set up 2FA on a separate site. You can try your wordfence . com account, this will help us see if the issue is with the site or with your authentication device.

Let me know what you find,

    Christian
