Either Really Simple SSL can’t find my certificate or cPanel isn’t correctly generating it and I need some help finding out which one it is.

    Tried:
? Manually installing the most up-to-date certificate on cPanel
? Uninstalling the certificate and running AutoSSL on cPanel
? Running Really Simple SSL’s wizard

    Roadblocks:
? Really Simple SSL gives the error: “No SSL certificate has been detected yet. In some cases this takes a few minutes.” I cannot complete the SSL installation with Really Simple SSL.

    Hypotheses:
    1. Do I need to create a new SSL manually?
    1. Do I need to create a new key?
    2. Do I need to create a new signing request?
    2. Did auto-renewal break?
    3. I need to manually install the most up-to-date SSL certificate on cPanel again.
    4. The 10/3/2022 cert has become corrupted or it has been deleted in the backend.
    5. The key is missing.

    Tests:
    1. Against H3, go to “SSL/TLS Status”, click “view certificate” for the highest level domain. In “SSL/TLS”, under “Install an SSL Website”, click “Browse Certificates”, select the most recent certificate (the one that expires on October 3rd 2022), click “Use Certificate”. Let the certificate install. Run Really Simple SSL again. If installation fails for the same reason, H3 is refuted.
    2. Against H4, on “SSL/TLS”, under “Manage Installed SSL Websites”, click uninstall and on “SSL/TLS Status” rerun AutoSSL. Repeat T1. If O2 is reobserved, H4 is refuted.
    3. Against H5, on “SSL/TLS” under “Private Keys”, check if a key with ID” dfa6a_f8859_8dc6369805e765bbb537b279c73d9ed1″ exists. If the key exists, H5 is refuted.

    Observations:
    1. From T1, under “Install an SSL website” appears the warning “Note: You don’t have a dedicated IP address. Browsers that were released before 2013 may not support SNI. Because of this, users may see false security warnings when they visit your SSL-secured websites.”
    2. From T1, on clicking “Use Certificate”, the fields do not populate and the error message appears “The certificate information could not be retrieved because of an error: No key with the ID “f42cf_fceb1_3fb9fa939fc21e526b5878077373bfd6” exists.”
    3. From T2, after running AutoSSL, on “SSL/TLS” under “Manage Installed SSL Websites”, a new certificate appears, expiring on 11/24/22. The same certificate appears on “SSL/TLS” under “SSL Certificates”.
    4. From T2, on clicking “Use Certificate”, the fields do not populate and the error message appears “The certificate information could not be retrieved because of an error: No key with the ID “dfa6a_f8859_8dc6369805e765bbb537b279c73d9ed1” exists.”
    5. From T2, ReallySimpleSSL still fails.
    6. From T3, a key with ID “dfa6a_f8859_8dc6369805e765bbb537b279c73d9ed1” exists.

This page (https://really-simple-ssl.com/installing-ssl-on-cpanel/) suggests I install the Really Simple SSL shell add-on and/or somehow obtain the certificate in plain copyable text from the Really Simple SSL Wizard. How do I do these?

    Hi @sophiier,

your site does not use a valid SSL certificate. To fix this, a valid SSL certificate has to be installed. I’d recommend to start by generating a certificate via Really Simple SSL. See https://really-simple-ssl.com/install-ssl-certificate/ for instructions on how to do that. If you have already done so, could you check what the certificates expiration date is in the cPanel SSL/TLS manager? You could also try to reset the wizard by pressing the ‘Reset Let’s Encrypt’ link in the top right corner. That should provide you with a new certificate which can then be installed in cPanel.

    Hi @sophiier,

We haven’t heard from you in a while, is the issue resolved with the solutions my colleague provided? We are happy to help you further.

    Kind regards, Kim van Dijk

    Hi,

This page (https://really-simple-ssl.com/installing-ssl-on-cpanel/) suggested I install the Really Simple SSL shell add-on and/or somehow obtain the certificate in plain copyable text from the Really Simple SSL Wizard.

To do that I found that I needed to set the host provider in Really Simple SSL to ‘unknown’. I did this, it regenerated the SSL cert automatically, and tried to install it automatically. But afterward it still did not find a valid SSL certificate. I went back to my website’s cPanel, deleted all the SSL certs, uninstalled the existing one, then retried SSL cert regeneration through ReallySimpleSSL. No dice. Then I decided to try to reinstall it manually (copying and pasting the cert into cPanel) and when I was downloading the SSL cert my website erased itself. There’s just a 404 page there now. I had no backup. Oops.

    Hi @sophiier,

I am so sorry to hear this! I would try contacting your hosting. Usually, they will make back-ups from the servers. Perhaps they can put a backup back for you from before deleting the SSL certs. I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,

    Kim van Dijk

You can go through all this every few months or get longer term cheap ssl certificate!
