Cannot Figure Out User Interface

Please help. There must be an easy way to do this, but I can’t figure it out.
I would really like to see a simple archive style listing of all my downloads by category, along with the short description. So when a user clicks on one, the full download page displays with all the detail, the full description, and the option to download the file. Seems pretty basic.
Instead what I’m getting is a list of download titles only, and clicking on it immediately starts the download. Here’s all I’m getting so far:

How is the user ever supposed to see the description?I’ve tried variations on the shortcode to no avail.

BTW, I’m trying to replace another download plugin that has stopped working.

With the core/free “Download Monitor” plugin we provide the basic features so to display your description or to create single download pages, you will need to use custom code. Also, we have a premium add-on “Page Add-on – https://www.download-monitor.com/extensions/page-addon/” with which you could get the features you are looking for.
