I installed Filezilla and used it to peak at my files on Yahoo. Even though I enabled “hidden files” in Filezilla, I was not able to find “.htaccess”.

I assume the function works but that .htaccess is in a folder higher than my root folder on Yahoo.

Several posts in this forum remind one to backup .htaccess but how can that be done on Yahoo, or is it unnecessary on Yahoo??

  • if you are using a client that lets you see dotted files (.htaccess is a dotted file) and you have enabled that feature in the client, and you dont see an .htaccess in the ROOT of your webspace — then you dont have one.

In your case, The ROOT of your webspace is the directory above this one:

    blog/

.htaccess are never going to be placed outside of the web accessible area — they dont go there, and they dont work there.

… and, if I recall correctly, Yahoo! hosting has some sort of home grown plugin that handles permalinks.

they do but once activate it, it brakes all the RSS feeds on my site.
