[Plugin nextgen-gallery] Cannot find plugin in WP after upload…

Hi there,
I create a folder where the default plugins are located,
and upload the file as per instruction (tried several test plugins)
…but they just will not list in WP like the default plugins.
also have flushed the browser…
any ideas?
