Cannot get favicon to work

  • Hi I have 3 sites 2 twenty fourteen and 1 twenty seventeen. I followed the instructions for putting a favicon or icon on them with twenty fourteen no problem. With twenty seventeen although you can see it on the front page it does not show up on the browser bar or on a mobile phone.
    would appreciate any pointers on this

  • I don’t see any favicon on the homepage of your site nor any code in the source code for it to display correctly.

    Did you add the favicon into Appearance->Customize->Site Identity->Site Icon for TwentySeventeen?

    Hi Jarret many thanks for your reply and yes I did follow the above procedure and it was identical to my other site https://www.aew-electrical.co.uk as I used the same icon pic

    Hmm oddly enough still not seeing anything in the source code for the site. Do you maybe have some type of caching active on the server that isn’t forcing the update to show on the live site?

    I tried forcing a cache update such as adding ?nocache onto the end of the URL but no luck there.

    Hi Jarret many thanks for getting back to me and yes I have WP cache along with Autoptimise but I also have them on my other 2 sites ie all 3 are identical with regards to the favicon setup with one exeption twentyseventeen theme is not working but the 2 on twenty fouteen are fine.

    I’m not quite sure on this one yet….do you have a direct link to the icon you’re trying to use for the favicon that you can link here so I can try on my test install?

    Maybe it has something to do with the specific image that you’re trying to use that isn’t allowing it to display properly.

    Hi Jarret many thanks for your reply as I said its the same image used across 3 sites

    When you visit edinburgh stair lighting site via a PC/laptop you can see the icon but the favicon is not showing on the address bar yet same image and set up on the other 2 sites works ok

    I would try disabling all plugins that you have setup currently and see if that resolves the issue. I grabbed a copy of the favicon from your sites and was able to upload it to my TwentySeventeen install and have it show up properly in the source code as well as the browser.

    Are all of these sites on the same host/hosting plan?

    Thanks Jarret for all your help. I will tackle this at the weekend.

    Yes all 3 sites are on the same hosting plan although I have had an issue of when I log on to the hosting platform to manage the sites the twenty seventeen is greyed out instead of see the front page. I was told this was not an issue by the hosting company
