Cannot install any new themes

  • Here is the site I have been asked to update, I believe it’s hosted by GoDaddy

    I inherited this and am a newbie, all I want to do is install some new themes and then pick the best one but all the theme installs fail with this error

    ‘Download failed. There are no HTTP transports available which can complete the requested request.’

    The other instances of this error I have found in the forum seem to say the fix is to update your server, but we don’t host it, our server is GoDaddy, so that option is not available.

    Am I totally missing the obvious here? I know HTML and JS but don’t know how WordPress works. Thanks for any help you can offer

  • That’s a server error, not a WordPress error.

    It’s a little bit cryptic, but what I believe it’s saying is that the server doesn’t have any valid way to access the download server for the themes. The only way to get that fixed is to contact your hosting company with that error and ask them to fix it so that it is allowed.

    If that doesn’t help, you can download the themes ZIP file from this site, un=zip all of the files, and use FTP to upload all of the new themes files to your server. Then the new theme wil be available.

    If you have ftp details, then you can check the wp-contents or Themes folder write permissions.
