cannot install jpegtran, optipng, etc. on cloudways hosting

I have this same issue but i talked to the support and they reset the permission and now it′s work just fine. I don′t know if they do something else but you can just call then and fix this

@rafaelnogueira, on most (older) servers this is possible, but it seems their newer VPS instances have some sort of protection that make it more difficult to get working. Several of the image optimization reviews that have been published in the last couple years used Cloudways for their test environment, and EWWW worked just fine at that point. But some recent change to their setup has thrown a wrench in the works.

@nosilver4u my serever is brand new, i have one for the live site an other for dev and tests. I talked to support and they open a ticket. A few hours later the problem was solved and works fine.

@rafaelnogueira, can you turn on debugging, and post the debug information from the settings page on pastebin.com? Last time they did that to me, they were using an old insecure version of optipng.

Cloudways just recently took care of it. You will probably need to launch/clone to a new server for it to take effect.

You can typically also ask them to fix your existing server. But yes, launching a new instance might be the quickest fix. Just saw that announcement myself a few days ago.
