Cannot install WordPress 4.9

  • I have been trying since yesterday evening to upgrade my site to 4.9. I have tried deactivating the plugins, installing manually and tried multiple times to update in the site itself. I have never had this problem until this version. Every time I get a different error message with installation failed. Everything from cannot copy this file or cannot establish directory. i am at my wit’s end. My site works fine but I’d like to update. Any recommendations?

    If you haven’t tried, try MANUALLY updating. Download WordPress again and unzip it. Access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Please read the Manual Update directions first.
