Cannot log in to admin account

    hi, the most basic of questions here. i just installed wp onto my host server. i then received an email that says this:

    Your new WordPress site has been successfully set up at:
    https://mydomainname.com/
    You can log in to the administrator account with the following information:
    Username: admin
    Password: —————
    We hope you enjoy your new site. Thanks!
    –The WordPress Team
    https://www.ads-software.com/

    now what do i do? i’ve tried everything i can find in the forum and nothing is working.

    thank you. however, i tried both of those options. they bring me to the login site and i enter “admin” as the username and the pw i was given, and i get this error message in a red box:

    You attempted to login with the username ‘admin’ on WordPress.com. If you were trying to access your self hosted www.ads-software.com blog, try yourdomain.com/wp-admin/. If you can’t remember your WordPress.com username, you can reset your password by providing your email address. If you have any questions please contact support.

    if you have a hosted blog – why are you trying to log in at wordpress.com?
    you go to your domain name and add wp-admin to url

    i know, that’s what i’m doing but it’s sending me in circles.

    i entered what you told me to: https://domain.com/wp-admin

    and it brings me to this page: https://domain.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F

    (i replaced my domain name with “domain” above)

    perhaps the fact that it says “redirect” is what’s funny about it?

    who is your web host?
    who is your domain registered with?
    do you have the domain name servers pointing to your hosting account?

    ok i got it to work! thank you very much, samuel. here was the problem:

    before i bought hosting outside of wordpress.com, i had my domain name pointing to my wordpress.com blog. what i forgot to when i bought my hosting was to change the domain name servers so they pointed at my new hosting account.

    thanks again, so much, and perhaps this helps some other people too.

    samuel, you are going to swear at me aloud as you read this, but first let me say that i promise not to tweak with my account anymore after i fix this (i will leave it to the professionals).

    i thought i was being clever and changed the domain name in my wordpress admin settings to domain.com/test so that no one could see my page as i played around with design.

    now i can’t log in at all anymore. i get this: ERROR 404 – PAGE NOT FOUND

    i’m afraid you might tell me i’m on my own here. i already know i’m an idiot.

    just fix it back
