• Hi,

I’ve recently taken over management of an existing website, and I am new to using WordPress.

I’m currently unable to log into the WordPress dashboard for our site:
    https://www.informationliteracy.org.uk/wp-login.php

When I login, it instead redirects to a blank page of our website.

Have tried clearing cookies and cache.

It might be the case that a colleague has tried to upgrade the site to version 3.6.1; might this then be causing problems with logging in?

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

I’ve been searching around on this issue as a user with a WP blog hosted by my website provider –
the dashboard I now have finally managed to get access to appears to have shrunk to a useless miniature thing that I can only use to access my profile or the blog page – no more list of plug ins, edit post, add new or much else of use.
I am an amateur at this and time has moved on since I thought I could manage such things – but being lost with no ability to write posts is frustrating to put it mildly.

the above instruction about getting into a current theme’s folder is a problem as I go into file manager form my Cpanel and find the themes folder – it downloads what is a PHP file and of course I have no idea what to do with that..
My problem is a little like the above persons – trying to be a car driver without ever learning how to re-engineer the engine – and not knowing the language that well either.

But if there is something simple I can do to regain access to the writing and editing of my blog that doesn’t get me lost in php editing, I might be able to manage it…

(Brain is old and slow now)

@offpat: It is impolite to interrupt another poster’s ongoing thread with a question of your own. It causes significant problems for the forum’s volunteers and prevents us from being able to track issues by topic. Please post your own topic.

sorry – thought it was the only way in, and on topic…I am not used to threads being in the thousands – and cannot see where to start a topic..
