I just installed fresh copies of both WAMP 3 (x86) and WordPress 4.7.3 on my Windows 7 SP1 x32 desktop. After logging in once to WP and then logging out I called it a night.

Days later I was unable to login to WP. I tried to email for a new password and the process failed. I received the canned reply “The email could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function.” The install has no host except my desktop.

I went into MyAdminPHP and reset the password myself. Using my username and password – and both were clearly in the database – the login failed. The email address was there also.

This is a virgin install. No plugins, no themes selected. Nothing, zero, zip, nada. Nonetheless I renamed the plugins folder – only Askimet was present – and tried logging in again. I could not sign into WP. I wish I could, I’d like to make a new WP/Bootstrap theme for my website.

It’s okay, my other computer is giving me a hard time as well. It’s just one of those weeks.

  • That’s odd. Are you sure you were entering the username and password correctly?

Yeah, when you use XAMPP or WAMP you cannot send emails.

Maybe you’ve missed something while changing the password in the database…

Since you don’t know where I live there’s no risk in showing you the line I have in the database.

You see my username, password, email address and activation key – the immensely LONG number towards the end.

There’s no rhyme nor reason for it. But now that I think about it … I don’t recall installing WAMP as administrator. Hmmm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA.

Yep. Just as I suspected. I forgot to install WAMP as administrator. I’ll be the first to say, “it was the nut behind the wheel.”

Age and health had nothing to do with it.

Thanks for all who tried to help.
