cannot login to WP admin with right credentials

Try:
– switching to the default theme automatically by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

starting to follow your instrucitons – i downloaded a new wordpress installation ver 4.5.2
i deleted the wp-content folder & wp-config sample.php file
i am having some trouble with the .htaccess files you mentioned –
1. i thought i have to delete these files from my wordpress installation directory but i cannot find such files there
2. i then tried finding those filed on my server via ftp and cannot locate any /htaccess files, the display hiddent files option is enabled

pls advice – where excatly are those files and what should i do when i find them?

As per esmi suggestion you have to do:

But you are mentioning that “i deleted the wp-content folder & wp-config sample.php file”

You have done totally opposite of that So now your theme and plugins are not their if have deleted the wp-content please see If you have backup of those folder and files that you deleted.

clarion, thanx but i meant that i deleted the files from the new wordpress installation folder – meaning that i left mine on the server

@naftalistms I assume you resolved this issue given the time frame ?

I have exactly the same issue. Fresh install 3 times (database also) and still no luck.

I was hoping you could let me know what your ultimate fix was ?
