Can you compare the path URL if you right-click to download and copy the link, then paste it into a new tab – does it redirect to a different path or anything like that? Is the link that resolves into a 404 the same link attached to the path URL that is copied?

The backups would still be available on your server, either via FTP or your cPanel’s file manager, so you can still get to them if needed. In the meantime, get me a little more information and let’s see if we can’t troubleshoot this.

    Thanks!

    Hi Katmoodty,

    Thank you for you help.

    1) Here is a link when I use right click and choose Save Link As (btw the download fails)
    website-com-1488593733-database-2017-03-26-23-00-02

    2) Here is a link when I just click once on the download link. it opens a new page with this URL:
    https://website.com/wp-content/backupwordpress-511966d253-backups/website-com-1488593733-database-2017-03-26-23-00-02.zip

    3) Here is a link when I try to copy the Link Address:
    https://website.com/wp-admin/admin-post.php?hmbkp_backup_archive=L2hvbWUvd3BfOHJod3p1L211c2VmcmVlLmNvbS93cC1jb250ZW50L2JhY2t1cHdvcmRwcmVzcy01MTE5NjZkMjUzLWJhY2t1cHMvbXVzZWZyZWUtY29tLTE0ODg1OTM3MzMtZGF0YWJhc2UtMjAxNy0wMy0yNi0yMy0wMC0wMi56aXA%3D&hmbkp_schedule_id=1488593733&action=hmbkp_request_download_backup&hmbkp_download_backup_nonce=5f8d35fe9c

P.S. During those test i do not know what I did but once I could download from the WP dashboard.

Okay when you clicked the link did it open the new page and download the backup? Because that’s what is supposed to happen.

It looks like the right-click and save as didn’t add the “zip” on the end?

    Thanks,
    Kat

Yes, when I click it opens a new window with 404 error.
I do not know why it did not work. I am trying to keep my WP fresh and clean. I do not use low rating plugins etc.

Is your site actually installed at yourwebsite.com or is it installed inside a directory, like yourwebsite.com/wordpress or something like that? I’m wondering if the plugin isn’t reading the site path within the server correctly.

    Let me know okay?

    Thanks,
    Kat

I am having the identical issue. Clicking the Download link directly or copying the address to a new tab results in a 404 error. Right-clicking the Download link and selecting Save Link As.. results in a failed download with “Failed – No file” as the error. It appears that file is in a different location or is not being created. ANy help is appreciated!

    Hey there @joanngkk

Let me ask you the same question I asked the original poster:

Is your site actually installed at yourwebsite.com or is it installed inside a directory, like yourwebsite.com/wordpress or something like that? I’m wondering if the plugin isn’t reading the site path within the server correctly.

I’m still wondering if this could be the issue. Let me know?

    Thanks,
    Kat

    Thanks, Kat.

My site is installed at yourwebsite.com not in a /wordpress folder.

Okay guys – I’m going to do a little testing on this issue and work with the developers to see if we can figure out what happened. Just so I know, could I get some basic server information from you guys to compare? Specifically the version of PHP, any disabled functions, additional plugins installed, etc.

You can copy and paste the server information from the BackUpWordPress admin page on your site. Look at the top right corner of the page and click on the “Help” tab. When that opens, look on the left-hand side and click on “Server Info”. That will list all the information about your site/server.

Just copy and paste that, redacting any identifiable information (or you can email to me at the support desk — [email protected]) and that would help me in troubleshooting, okay? ??

    Thanks again,
    Kat

Very important if you guys could check this for me as well — on my test server, when I tracked the file path, it included a double // between the main site url and the wp-content directory. Can you please check and see if this happens on yours or not for sure?

    Thanks so much!
    Kat

Hi Kat – I emailed you the server info.

I checked the file path and there is only a single / , not a double, between the sitename and the wp-content directory.

That’s good to know – I’m not positive why it’s doing that for mine, except mine is in a subdirectory. Maybe that is signifying it. I’m still digging into the function that handles the download link. So I think the backslash is likely unrelated, then. Bummer, I was hoping I had stumbled upon something useful ??

    Hi Kat,

I sent Server into to your email too.
Regarding your second question between wp-content and site URL i have only 1 slash “/”

    thanks

I think I’ve responded to both these users at this point. For anyone else experiencing the same issue, please follow the same steps I outlined above and send me a copy of your server information so we have it for further troubleshooting and comparison. We are currently working on this. I’ll update here with further information when I have it.

    Kat
