Installed plugin, activated, set date format, but existing WP Archive still appears.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi induna,

the plugin doesn’t override the built-in archives. Please see the Usage section on https://www.schloebe.de/wordpress/simple-yearly-archive-plugin/ to learn how to use the plugin.

tl;dr Create a page and insert the shortcode [SimpleYearlyArchive]. ??

Hi wpseek, Thanks for the advice.

Just create a new page in WordPress and insert the shortcode I mentioned as content of the page. ??

Did that. Opened a new page and inserted [SimpleYearlyArchive]
Deactivated the plugin and then reactivated it. Still no luck, existing default Archive still running!
I also noted in the settings that I cannot enter any figure in “Max Chars Excerpt block” or in the “Indent action block”
Looked at Scloebe’s web site but unable to see where I am going wrong.
Do I need to add something to the Directory on my server?

Update! I just found it. I just noticed right under the Theme image there is the normal menu Home About and then I see [SimpleYearlyArchive] which when clicked on brings up the Archive just as it appears in the Mr Scloebe’s demo. Problem is the default Archive still remains in the right hand column. I was expecting the SYA to appear in its place!
