  • Hi Support,

Still the same here… I was hoping 1.0.8 would help but it didn’t ??
The articles are previewing fine without any error on the News Preview tool.

Any idea on how to start to resolve this would be very appreciated !

    Thanks in advance,
    Alexandre

Please ensure your host has allow_url_fopen enabled and let us know if this error still occurs. Thanks.

    any update Brad?

I don’t have anything further to offer you at this time. It sounds like an issue with your web host. We’ll be looking into ways to work around these sort of issues in the future but there’s nothing firm on our roadmap. Due to the way the Apple News API works, we do occasionally find incompatibilities with some web hosts and image handling.

One other thing I can look into, can you confirm what your PHP max_execution_time is set to?

    Thanks.

i am hosting my site internally. However, it was all working fine since last 2 weeks and just stopped only 3 days ago.

    max_execution_time = 30

    Brad,

we have not been able to publish on Apple News since 19th April. is there any update why i am getting this issue? there should be a fix for this.

The Apple News format is complex and requires a complex code base to handle it. It’s simply not possible for every single installation to work perfectly. I can point you to hundreds of other sites, some publishing hundreds of articles for millions of readers daily, who have absolutely no issues with the plugin whatsoever. We have dozens of unit tests in place to ensure we don’t introduce any regressions with each release.

There could be many reasons besides a legitimate bug that this plugin isn’t working – other plugins on your site, unexpected markup in your articles, or a misconfiguration of your hosting environment.

Keep in mind this is free, open source software provided to you for no charge. There is no warranty nor implication of any service level agreement. We can’t guarantee a timeframe for resolution and we are looking to improve the debug mode in a future version of the plugin to help troubleshooting. If I have anything to offer you, you’ll be the first to know.

    Thanks.

Closing this issue as there has been no further response.

Please note that since the API now supports remote images, we’re considering that feature for an upcoming version to avoid issues like this one:

we were able to publish as soon as we reverted back to older version of your plugin… so clearly there is something changed. i have not yet updated to version 1.1 as i am scared that we will be able to loose publishing option again.

    Hello,

Same issue as syedmehmood and same resolution.

I keep getting “The attachment xyz.png could not be included in the request because its size was 0.” with the following versions of the plugin:
    (+) 1.1.3
    (+) 1.1.2
    (+) 1.1.1
    (+) 1.1
    (+) 1.0.8

I rolled back until I could find something that works, i.e., version 1.0.5

With 1.0.5, I was able to publish 13 articles to Apple News.

So, there must be something in the newer plugin versions that cause the issue.

My website is hosted on SiteGround with WordPress 4.5.2, PHP 5.4 45.

For now, I will stick to 1.0.5. Please let me know if you need any further info.

    Regards,

The Apple News API used to require that images were bundled into the API requests, which caused problems with some web hosts. In version 1.0.6, we changed how those requests were handled but some people, like yourself, continued to have issues.

The Apple News API now supports remote images, which means that they can pull them in directly from your server. We introduced support for this feature in version 1.1.2. I suggest you switch back to the latest version and set “Use Remote Images” to “yes” in your plugin settings. I suspect this will resolve all issues for you.

We’ll likely be making remote images the default for this reason in a future version.

    Hello Bradford,

I just tried remote images with the plugin version 1.1.2 and 1.1.3. And I got the “invalid_document” problem.

I believe there is a thread about this issue here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/112-problem-invalid_document?replies=15

From what I read, I have to wait a few weeks until Apple supports “Transfer-Encoding: chunked”.

    Is that correct?

Possibly, yes. We’ll see if there’s any sort of interim solution.

    (@potatomaster)

In version 1.1.4, we’ve added additional logic for determining the file size for bundled images which may help you until the Apple News API supports chunked transfer encoding.
