Cannot receive any emails via my WP site

OK, I have determined that is almost certainly issue 4. Incorrect Server Configuration

via Check & Log email, I can confirm that no emails are being sent.

However, the advice is “It is better to contact the plugin developer for the solution and tell them about your issue.”

What does that mean?

@auticulture1 What are you using to send mails? php_mail() or SMTP?

Talk to your host. Ask them if port 25 is blocked.

apparently SMTP, tho I do not have that plugin at my other site & would def prefer not to use it.

this is the info from Check & Log Email:

SendMail path (UNIX): /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
SMTP server (Windows): localhost
SMTP port (Windows): 25

I have already talked to the host & we have unblocked port 25 AFAIK

Shall I deactivate SMTP & try it without? Does it automatically go to PHP?

You can also use Check and log Email plugin to send a test mail.

If the email doesn’t arrive, there is a configuration issue within your WordPress setup.

SMTP has a real advantage over PHP as it uses authentication to help remove spam. Mails sent via SMTP are less likely to end up in spam filters than PHP emails.

I worked with someone the other day with php_mail() function and it took a really long time for us to figure it out. More so, even after it got working, the mails were still sent to spam. Server reputation is a big deal here. The point being, its better to use a third party mailing service if you really care about your mails landing up in other person’s mailbox.

@auticulture1 You wouldn’t need zoho for simple notification e-mails of course.

That would depend on a lot of factors including your web host, server configuration, Website setup, port access and so on. Some of them are even beyond your control. The wp-installation may log outbound mails which your server never sends or the client mailbox-provider may block inbound mail even before they reach you. A lot goes on in the background.
