I installed Responsive Lightbox, but the client asked for something different.

I deactivated the plugin and then deleted it (as normal, through the Plugins section of WordPress). However, when I click on images in the website, they still open up through Responsive Lightbox (even though I have deactivated and deleted it!)

After that, I opened up my FTP client and looked into the plugins folder, but there was no Responsive Lightbox files left (this is fine, cos I did delete them previously).

Then I looked into the database, using phpMyAdmin, to see if there was any reference to Responsive Lightbox in the database. But there was none (I was able to see the reference to all the other, still-present, plugins in the site).

I am completely at a loss – I just want to deactivate the Responsive Lightbox functionality and get on with building this website!

Please help me to figure out how to remove the Responsive Lightbox completely!

    Thanks in advance.

It’s not the plugin. You probably have a second lightbox, this one icluded in your theme. That’s why it behaves like the plugin is there.

If you post a link to your site we’ll tell you precisely what’s causing that.

Exactly. Your theme is using one of the scripts taht’s a part of Responsive Lightbox also.

Can you help me identify it so I can disable it please? I’ve looked through as many of the theme files as I could, but I could not find the place where the Responsive Lightbox is being called.

If I could just knock it out that would be enough.

    Thansk!

There IS NO Responsive Lightbox on your site. Your site is using multiple scripts but not our plugin.

I think you should contact your theme author to help you out.

Yes I know that there is no Responsive Lightbox on the site. That’s the problem!
The Responsive Lightbox was installed on the website, but then I removed it. However, the Responsive Lightbox still appears whenever I click on an image! That’s the problem – I cannot find how the Responsive Lightbox is still active, and I want to totally remove it.

I’m at a loss here: I simply installed the Responsive Lightbox plugin, used it as normal for a while, then deactivated and deleted it. I expected that it would be completely removed, but it seems it is not completely gone.
As I said: whenever I click on an image in the website gallery, the Responsive Lightbox still displays the larger image – I don’t want this at all! I want the Responsive Lightbox, hence I contacted you.

I do not know how to remove the Responsive Lightbox from my website. It seems impossible to get rid of.

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    Hi esmi,
Thanks for the suggestions. Tried both of them, but no luck.

I’m just totally confused: There seems to be no trace whatsoever of the Responsive Lightbox plugin left in the site, but still it controls how images are displayed when you click on them.

I’ve made sure there’s no Responsive Lightbox plugin files or folders left in the plugins folder (having already deactivated and deleted the plugin through the WordPress menu).
I check in phpMyAdmin to see if there was any reference to it, but could find none (I did find references to all other plugins in use on the site though).

I’ve never come across this problem before. Hope you can help!

So can we see the site using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

Have a look now (current theme deactivated and plugins folder renamed):

    https://www.patrickcaseydesign.com/ArrowStageLines/fleet/fleet-photo-gallery/

I tried this a couple of minutes ago but for some reason the TwentyThirteen theme wasn’t activated – I just got a white screen when loading the site, so I wasn’t able to determine if the Responsive Lightbox was still in effect.

However, with the TwentyThirteen theme activated and plugins folder disable, it seems the Responsive Lightbox has been knocked off.

Now – leaving the plugins folder deactivated, try switching back to your old theme. If the problem re-occurs, it’s a theme-specific issue.

    (@caseypb)

Yup, seems to be theme specific so. I reactivated the theme and it’s back to it’s old tricks. Problem is, how do I get rid of the Responsive Lightbox behaviour. As far as I know, there was nothing like that in the theme to begin with.

You need to speak to the theme’s developer about it.

Ok, well I appreciate the assistance. I’ll get onto the developer.
