Cannot remove search field from Home page on iPhone

I am using the News Portal theme with a Child theme and it works fine. I suppressed the Search Field using Appearance – Customize – Header Settings – Header Option – Search Icon – Hide. On Windows this works, the Search Field does not appear, but my iPhone shows the Search Field on the Home page (only). Why the difference? How can I suppress the Search Field on my iPhone? Thanks for any suggestions. Update: the issue appears to be Safari, the Chrome browser does not show the Search Field.
