• I tried to “replace” media files for several images but none got updated. I selected “only replace..” option, selected an image (I am only replacing images so the file types are not different in my case) and hit Upload. When I come back to Media list I see the same old image displaying!

    1. Do I need to make sure the dimension of my new image file exactly matches the old one?

    2. Do I need to make sure the file extension of new image file must be the same
    as of the old one?

    3. I don’t see any permission issue as old images got uploaded from CPT forms in front end.

    4. I am using a independent custom theme built from scratch. There is no parent theme associated. I am almost certain this cannot be an issue but just mentioning in case there is any relation.

    5. OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. WordPress version: 4.7.2

An early reply and the workaround would be greatly appreciated as I need to update some media files (both images and PDF) on my client’s website today. At the moment I am on my local development environment. I will install the plugin on the server once it works here.

Ok, I see why! It was the cache ??

However, if no image is selected I should not be able to “Upload”, there must be a validation firing before page actually gets submitted.

Hope you have already thought about it.

I’m having this problem too but clearing the cache didn’t work. The only thing that seemed to change was the thumbnail.

The option to “Replace the file, use new file name and update all links” works but the “Just replace the file” doesn’t.

Nevermind. It was GoDaddy and their cache bs. I literally have to flush the cache after every change and even then, I might have to flush it numerous times. Ugh!!!

I was clearing my cache before but I needed to clear the server cache.
