I cannot seem to update my discussion settings from the default settings. Each time I click “save”, instead of saving the settings it appears to go to a broken page link – saying page not found, try a search. Anyone else having this trouble and if so – how do I fix it?

    Thanks!

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Thirteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

So today I deactivated all of the plugins, tried it again to no avail – same results as before. Then I switched to Twenty Thirteen and the same thing occurred.

Any other ideas? I am not a developer – just a blogger learning how to self-host, and this is really the only glitch we’ve had so far. I just don’t know what else to do, and I really need to fix the comments (we want to be able to moderate them as they come in). Thanks so much!

Hm, very strange. How big are your comment moderation and blacklists?

Meanwhile, try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Same problem here.
    Wordpress 4.1
    Brand new install
I use Salutation theme (v 3.0.4). I tried other themes and the problem continued.
    I use one plug-in – Revolution Slider (v 4.5.7)
I turned it off and the problem continued.
I downloaded recommended files and uploaded to me server. I also copied over the options-discussion.php. Problem continues.
I do not have any blacklists or moderation lists. Since discussion settings cannot be saved, I can’t add any.

    Any new ideas?
    Thank you very much.

One more thing I forgot to tell you:
I have an exact replica install on same server. The only difference is the other install is WordPress 3.9.2.
Discussion settings work fine on that website.
    Thank you.
