Cannot Save or Publish WordPress Posts

  • I have been using WordPress for 6 years and I have never experienced this problem before. It has started happening in the past few weeks and I have no idea why.

    I have been working on the same post repeatedly and while editing I have noticed that the save and publish buttons will often grey out. The only way to get them back is to reload the page and lose all amendments. Also, sometimes when I hit save I get an error message come up which states: This page isn’t working – ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE.

    Sometimes if I leave the page open for a few hours the buttons will light up again, but in general once they grey out they are gone for good.

    I have not installed any plugins or made any changes to the site prior to this problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • HI @yourcivilaw that’s definitely an annoying situation. I did some research into the save button greying out. Based on this post it sounds like there might be a connection issue when WordPress is auto-saving:

    The authors solition is a bit of a hack but sounds like it will at least let you save without having to Copy Paste Refresh.

    Past that I would investigate either your hosting company or your ISP for connection issues.

    It might be a good idea to clear the cache on your browser if you haven’t tried that already.

    I am having a similar problem – except, it is happening on ALL POSTS, but not PAGES: There is no function at all to save or publish a post. 100% GONE. Would love to get some help on this. The above solution is specific to one post, but, this is a global issue affecting all of my posts.
