    Hi there,
I’ve been having some issues recently where trying to save a page or post results in the following error:

Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.

I couldn’t get to the bottom of the issue myself, so contacted my hosting company – they then tested the site and said:
I have isolated the issue to your WordFence plugin. The issue seems to be with the “post-name” permalink structure and WordFence, changing the structure resolves the issue, disabling the WordFence plugin also allows you to update both pages and posts

I also switched the ‘classic editor’ which helped, but is obviously not a solution going forwards.

Do you know what might be causing this? Could it be an issue with the recent WordPress update, because I have not had this until recently? I can’t change the permalink because of the SEO.

    Thanks,
    Sam

Hi @sambinding, thanks for getting in touch.

I think that Learning Mode might help here.

Firstly, reinstate the permalink and editor format you wish to use, and has been causing the problems. From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now perform the actions that were causing issues. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished performing the actions, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting. Now test to see if you’re able to save without the JSON error going forward.

Let me know how you get on.

    Peter.
