• I am using WordPress 5.8.3, I reinstalled it just before this to be sure. I am using the Twenty Twenty-One theme, but this happens in other themes as well. I have deactivated all installed plugins other than “Health Check & Troubleshooting”, which is labeled as “Must-Use”.

I have removed all widgets from my site and am trying to add a simple paragraph widget, but this happens with other widgets as well.
When I click to add a widget, select “paragraph”, enter a test value (test1), and click “Update” I get a “There was an error. [object Object]” message. The text does display on my site though.
If I then change the text to “test2” and click update again I get a “There was an error. The response is not a valid JSON response.” message. The updated text does not display on my site. If I continue to click update I continue to get the same message.

So, I can add a widget, but get an error; and I am unable to change it any.

I have tried putting the site in troubleshooting mode and the issue persists. I am on PHP version 8.0.13.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

The response is not a valid JSON response.

It may be a lot of different things:
    – a plugin conflict either 1) a plugin doing something that creates output, thus breaking the response or 2) a plugin doing something with caching),
    – an overloaded server,
    – misconfigured http/https address in General Settings,
    – permalinks may need resetting,
    – theme/plugin conflict,
    – check Site Health: From your WordPress dashboard, if you go to Tools and then select Site Health, then under the Status tab on that page, WordPress will show you any improvement recommendations that could help your website. An issue related to Rest API could also cause the JSON response error on your website. Moreover, if you find any issue there, solving the issue might also fix the JSON response error for your website, etc.

    I have uninstalled all plugins.
    The server load is minimal.
The general settings are straightforward, both addresses are https.
I have reset the permalinks to “plain”.
I am using the most basic theme.
My sitehelth check said “Good”, before I removed it.

Now, my widget screen is blank, the widget areas are gone.
