I have set up my page/blog to incorporate a variety of different levels of password protected pages/blog posts so that only members can view those pages. I am personally a member and have of course the highest level of access. However, when I visit my site as a visitor, it tells me I have to log in or register. In my register panel I am certainly registered.

When I enter my log in details, the system takes me into the wp-admin panel indicating it’s logged me in successfully. However, when I go back to the post to view it, it shows up exactly as before, asking me to log in or register!

In short, I cannot even see my own posts if I log in. How will I ever know if the plugin is working if it cannot even recognise me?!

Any help appreciated – thank you.

    Hi there,

Thank you for using Paid Memberships Pro. I’m sorry for the issue you are facing here, I will try my best to assist you.

The most common issue of not being logged-in, even though you are logged-in is due to HTTP and HTTPS. For example, if you login via HTTP and then redirect to an HTTPS URL on your site. I’m not entirely sure if this is the case.

Could you please link me to a page that requires membership and show’s the login / register message?

    Thank you for your patience.

I see you have opened up another post and it has a link to a restricted post.

Unfortunately www.ads-software.com support does not allow to share login details for support.

What you are able to do is the following (Please have a backup of your WordPress site in place):

    1. Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except Paid Memberships Pro and set your theme to the default TwentySeventeen theme.
    2. Try to recreate the issue, if you are shown as “logged-in” on the restricted post there was a conflict.
    3. If you are logged-in correctly from point 2, you may activate one plugin at a time and refresh the restricted page to see if you get logged-out.
    4. If you still stay logged-in, please reactivate your theme and see if you are logged-out.

If none of the above steps work, please let me know.

Thanks Andrew. Let me respond to both your responses:

    Response 1:

I am logging in from https and it is logging me in to https. As in this page: https://www.lovingkindness.co/2018/09/02/take-a-breath-guest-post/ When I log in, it logs in just fine – but it takes me to the wp-admin page allowing to edit the page instead of allowing me to view the blog post! If I try viewing the blog post again it then acts as if I’m logged out and I must log in again – which of course takes me back to the wp-admin page.

    Response 2:

I am using the standard 2016 page (not 2017). Must I change it now to 2017? I have done a good job of keeping things working on it and I don’t want to lose formatting etc. by using a newer page (only to complicate things further!)

I have over 60 plugins. Must I now remove them all again? I’ve done this to find that Theme My Login has also caused conflicts (and I don’t know why) – and it is highly time consuming. What then if I find it working and then it stops after a particular plugin is activated? Does that mean I cannot use that plugin?

    Thank you.

It’s possible that something is causing an issue with your SESSION data, which is why it’s showing that you are not logged-in.

The last plugin activated will be the culprit and we would need to see why it’s conflicting.

Another option you can do is check for any errors on your site by enabling debugging and recreating this issue you are facing – https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/how-to-enable-debugging-on-you-your-wordpress-site/

This may help determine if there are any common issues before going through the steps mentioned previously.

Please let me know if there are any errors in your debug.log

Thanks for this info Andrew. Today I see it has logged me in – but it still took me to the wp-admin page. When I went back, I was then able to see the posts this time. Incidentally I had been having some other problems with the Theme-My-Login plugin and I eventually deactivated all my plugins to see what was happening where. When I activated TML it started its problems again and wouldn’t work right. I then deleted the plugin altogether(!) and then reinstalled it from the beginning.

From all of that I’m now being redirected to the wp-admin (as above) but I do get to see my posts at least now. I’m going to take a break from it all now – because at least I can see the posts, and then look into it again some time in the near future!

    Thanks for your help meanwhile.

Thanks for the feedback, by default when you login to WordPress it redirects you to the WordPress dashboard.

You are able to use a third-party plugin to handle the login redirect or use this guide -> https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/redirect-members-to-referrer-on-login/

    I hope this helps.
