Cannot Select Text Visual Editor

  • I can confirm a bug, but I don’t know where to list it.

    A few weeks ago Chrome Beta browser was updated but also WordPress

    and since then I cannot select any text in visual editor on any of our websites, I cannot double click any text, I cannot even select one word let a lone a sentence.

    I have deactivated on the some of the staging / theme

    I cannot even in this visual editor used to report an error on the forum select any text it is very frustrating.

    I have deactivated all extensions and reset Chrome beta but it does nto fix it

    interestingly, Chrome Dev and Canary also have these problems

    In Firefox (which I hate to use) I have no problem and in the Stable normal release of Chrome no problem but we always use beta in our shop because it has faster fixes and better options

    I know the last update in Beta talked about alot of new privacy features but I have tried to disable those features,

    I also made sure I am accepting 3rd party plugins

    The problem I think is that eventually the features in Beta will port to Chrom e and everyone will have a problem.

    I don’t know if this was caused by a WordPress update or the browser update maybe a combination of both.

    If anyone has a solution, please let me know

  • Try going to the inspector and looking under the console tab to see if there any errors. All blocks are written in JavaScript so any errors should show in the console. You might also want to disable any chrome extensions to see if they are causing any interference.

    Haha there are no extentions I can screenshot the console this is the inspector from this visual editor here, I am sure it is to do with Chrome Beta new features.

    This issue is already known and has nothing to do with cookies.

    I think this is something we are going to want to look into fixing for 6.4.3

    @ashutosharma97 I can’t even highlight here, I have read this article and tried it but highlighting does not work, you cannot select anything. I cannot double click a word or sentence nothing happens,

    even as I reply now it is not possible and when I use inspector third party cookies will be blocked error https://developers.google.com/privacy-sandbox/3pcd#request

    I do not get this in Chrome stable

    but Chrome Beta, Dev, Chromium all have the issue. I am pretty sure it is another issue, which I have reported also in the channels and they are examining

    but maybe i don’t understand your link and their problem

    Text selection here is working in Chromium and Chrome Dev for me (on Linux), not sure why it isn’t working for you. But as far as I can tell, this has nothing to do with cookies. And even your screenshot (https://ibb.co/BKMWvHC) shows that the mentioned cookie belongs to Google Analytics, not WP.

    You can try creating a new user profile for testing to rule out any other Chrome preference which could be causing issues here.

    WordPress will fix it in the next release, it is a bug, there is a thread someone share with me.
