I was trying to update all of my sites to the most recent version of WordPress tonight, but one of them refuses to comply. When I try to automatically update it, it gives me this error:

    “Update WordPress

Another update is currently in progress.”

I waited 15 minutes and tried again with no luck, and then again after an hour, and then again after 2 hours.

I looked up this issue online and found out that it can usually be fixed with the “Fix Another Update In Progress” plugin, but when I activated and tried to use the plugin it told me “There is no issue. Continue with your WordPress Update”. Even so, trying to update does nothing.

I did a bit more research and learned that I can supposedly delete an entry in my myPHPadmin inside of my cPanel for “core_updater.lock” from the WordPress options table, but I was surprised to see that that entry doesn’t exist.

At this point, I’m stumped. I really don’t want to try to manually install WordPress under any circumstances, as that idea terrifies me because my tech-savvy level is low and I don’t want to risk doing anything to screw up my site. I can’t activate VaultPress until I have the newest version of WordPress, and I don’t trust other plugins to backup everything properly.

Does anyone know of any other possible reason why I’m getting this “Another update is currently in progress.” error and how I can possibly reset/fix it without having to manually install WordPress?

  • Hello,

The easiest and quickest solution is to use this plugin. There are many ways to fixed it, but using this plugin you can resolved this issue quickly.

I’m not sure if you saw in the original post, but I already used that plugin before posting. It claims “There is no issue. Continue with your WordPress Update”. Even so, trying to update does nothing, so I don’t know what else could be the problem or what to do. =/

Never mind–after three hours, the problem inexplicably resolved itself for some reason that I cannot fathom and WP allowed the update. Regardless–problem solved!
