• I have ave tried repeatedly to update to WordPress version 4.5.2. Checked with my host who confirmed all server settings are working correctly. Said to check with WordPress. I really have no idea what to do. I’ve always just done the ‘Update Now’ process from my WordPress dashboard and the updates installed no problem. This time it won’t work. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Marie Wise, https://www.mariewise.com/

  • Hi Marie,

What is the reason you are unable to update to version 4.5.2? Is it not coming up as an update, or are you seeing errors when you try to update?

And, just to rule it out, your site hasn’t automatically updated to 4.5.2 already has it?

    Hi Jeffrey,
The message that the new version of WordPress (4.5.2) appears in my dashboard. When I click the blue ‘Update Now’ button to do the automatic update, the connection information appears (Hostname, FTP Username and FTP Password). I have confirmed with my server that this connection information is correct, and the connection to the server is working. But the update won’t install. It just spins and returns the message:

ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.

My host suggested I contact WordPress support, so I am doing so. Thanks for any help you can provide! Marie

Might install the Background Update Tester and see what it says for additional troubleshooting.

In my particular case the way the server is configured, I don’t need to supply a username and password.

Did this only recently start happening? That is to say, did previous updates “just work”? And does it also happen with plugin updates?

Also, can you use those exact details to connect to the server through an FTP program like FileZilla?

If so, then it’s entirely possible that WordPress is unable to complete this update as the “current user” the server is running as and/or the user you’re entering the credentials for. I’m not sure if that would produce a “cannot connect” error though.

To be on the safe side, you’ll want to make sure all the file and folder permissions for your site are set up properly and that the files/folders are owned by the appropriate user as well. This is something the host should be able to help you with.

    Hi

I am not able to move to the latest version of WordPress version 4.5.2

It stops after a while when we click on Re Install

    Downloading update from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/wordpress-4.5.2-no-content.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Verifying the unpacked files…

Preparing to install the latest version…

    Enabling Maintenance mode…

    Copying the required files…

    Disabling Maintenance mode…

    Upgrading database…
