Cannot Update to WordPress 4.7.2

  • Hi,

    I’ve been trying to update my WordPress to 4.7.2 – I think I am running 4.7 but I’m not sure. When I try to update I get this message:

    Warning: copy(/homepages/15/d474072471/htdocs/app522827563/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /homepages/15/d474072471/htdocs/app522827563/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 257
    The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-admin/includes/update-core.php

    Installation Failed

    I have tried the installation with plugins deactivated but I get the same message. Whether it’s a related issue I don’t know, but I can’t use the WordPress app on either my phone or tablet to create posts or respond to comments on my site (I can still make comments on other sites). My site is https://www.meerkatmusings.co.uk. Can anyone help me please?

    If your server has issues with auto updating, then try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Please read the Manual Update directions first.

    I have exactly the same issue that @darth_timon has. I even has some An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now. with no .maintenance archive in my WordPress root to delete. I know I can upgrade manually, but why this happens? It’s just a 4.7.2 particularly bug or there’s something I have to take care of from now on?

    I have every file properly configured, chmod 755 for directories and chmod 644 for files, plus nginx:nginx as proprietary.

    I have been using WordPress since I can remember, and never seen anything like this.

    If the troubleshooting already posted made no difference for you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. That way you stand a good chance of getting the assistance you want. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole. – Side note to @ please do not jump into other topics and cross post that way. I’ve removed your other post.

    Ok @t-p, my bad.

    However I’ve managed to automatically upgrade, not from the dashboard tho. I’ll post it in a new post.

    Hi All,

    Automatic updates for minor releases is enabled for WordPress multisite via the Easy Updates Manager plugin.

    Minor release version 4.7.2 was released two weeks ago, on January 26. However, we noticed that the WordPress multisite installation had not been automatically updated to release 4.7.2. This suggests that minor-release upgrades are not occurring automatically as expected. Please let us know why this update was not happened automatically even though minor automatic updates enabled.
