Tried to update to WP 4.2, but after clicking to update database, am sent to “page not found” page and then continually get
    “Database Update Required
WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.”
message when trying to access wp-admin functions (dashboard) after.

The page not found link is (url)/wp-admin/upgrade.php?step=1&backto=%2Fwp-admin%2Fabout.php%3Fupdated

Have tried manual update of WP files, same issue.

    Am not running any caching.

Have removed revisions and optimized database, and do not believe it is particularly large (200 some posts, wp_posts table is 5 MB). However, debug log shows many messages of following:

User has exceeded the ‘max_user_connections’ resource (current value: 30) in […] wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1474

Have reverted back to 4.1.3 version until problem can be addressed.

  • I am having the same problem also on one of three sites; tried clearing browser cache and switching browsers, no change.

Maybe your hosting mySQL server has a very low limit on the number of connections it allows from your web server

Having the same problem, it is stuck in an infinite loop after upgrading to 4.2. Cannot reach dashboard because the “update database” screen appears, but after clicking to upgrade the database, when it does the redirect to reach WP-Admin it just brings up the “upgrade database” page again. My hosting account is at GoDaddy. The WP site is installed in a folder, not root, and perhaps that is the issue.

    Hoping for a fix…

Yes, I’ve already read that thread, and I addressed all the items in the section on the database update message loop item. None of them fixed my problem.

Also, in that post, I think “running a case” is a typo and it should be “running a cache”.

I am hoping that there is a manual database upgrade procedure that I can do, perhaps. Otherwise, it looks like I’m stuck not being able to upgrade.

I see that an update to the master list thread now mentions this post:
    https://pento.net/2014/04/07/wordpress-and-utf-8/
I’ll try that procedure when I have some time in case I need to restore again.

I think “running a case” is a typo and it should be “running a cache”.

    Thanks! I’ll fix that.

My error log file shows it is getting disconnected from MySQL as follows:

    [25-Apr-2015 15:43:41 UTC] WordPress database error Lost connection to MySQL server during query for query SELECT wp_posts.* FROM wp_posts WHERE 1=1 AND wp_posts.ID IN (1995,1592,1535,2608,1997,1349,1320,1980,1989,1985) AND wp_posts.post_type = ‘page’ AND ((wp_posts.post_status = ‘publish’)) ORDER BY wp_posts.post_date DESC made by require(‘wp-blog-header.php’), require_once(‘wp-includes/template-loader.php’), include(‘/themes/Divi/page.php’), get_header, locate_template, load_template, require_once(‘/themes/Divi/header.php’), wp_nav_menu, wp_get_nav_menu_items, get_posts, WP_Query->query, WP_Query->get_posts

@atlantawebdesignga – please see the troubleshooting thread I posted above and start your own thread.

I solved the problem by dumping my host (GoDaddy) due to overall poor performance.

I am having the same issue. I updated to 4.0 manually (which by that I’m assuming you mean through my host–GoDaddy), but still getting the same message. Anyone have any other suggestions? Is there a live support for WordPress that can help with individual issues? I chatted with a GoDaddy support person and he basically just told me it was a problem with WordPress and didn’t help me further. I am not very savvy about all of the back end stuff, although I really am trying. I’m contemplating just starting over, but I don’t want to lose my content, and I’m afraid I don’t know quite enough to be confident that I won’t.

    Thanks–I really appreciate any help.
