I recently changed my domain from lifespark.eu to defibme.ie. My hosting company did this for me. Unfortunately since changing the domain name, the media files do not upload and I cannot install pluggins.

When I try to install images I get the following error

“NUIG(1).jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to /usr/local/pem/vhosts/185311/webspace/httpdocs/defibme.ie/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/2013/06.

When i try to install a plugin I receive the following error.

    Could not create directory. /usr/local/pem/vhosts/185311/webspace/httpdocs/defibme.ie/htdocs/wp-content/upgrade/image-widget.tmp

My hosts tell me this is a wordpress issue but I am not convinced. As you can probably gather I am a novice at all this. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

    Hi esmi,
I changed the permissoions as suggested but none of the changes made a difference.

Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Try asking your hosts to check if you have a folder ownership issue.

    Thanks esmi

They have assured me that I have ownership of the files.

I have uploaded images to the folder via ftp but unfortunately cannot access these on the media library. My hosts suggest I instal a plugin to do this but unfortunately I cannot instal or upload plugins either. Apart from that, I feel i should be able to upload files directly to the media library via the media uploader.

Again, thanks very much for your assistance. I am at a loss to know where to turn next. I am assuming these issues were caused by the domain name change as they did not exist prior to the change.

That won’t work. You have to upload the images via WordPress to register them in the database. Did you send your hosts copies of the error messages?
