    Hello,

I am unable to upload certain files to my website’s media library, a 1.8mb pdf file in this case. It returns this error:

Unexpected response from the server. The file may have been uploaded successfully. Check in the Media Library or reload the page.

My web host is shared hosting from Lithium, “LiPanel Retired Plans – Value Hosting”

I looked up the error and have been trying many things unsuccessfully. Here’s what I’ve tried:

    • Use wordpress health check to disable all plugins and revert to default theme: I still get the error. Sometimes I get no error but the file doesn’t upload.
    • Setting hosting fortification to web app write mode
    • Tried using Tuxedo Big File Uploader in case there was a file size limit. Tried it with an without other plugins and themes disabled
    • Tried uploading file in incognito mode in case it is a problem with the user session
    • This problem was brought to me by someone who edits the website, with a different computer system etc so it’s not a problem with my machine
    • Tried contacting web host for help – they said the error was too general and they would need more info but I’m not sure how to provide that

    What else can I try?

I ended up solving my own problem. I was able to upload other files, so I thought maybe there was something wrong with that particular PDF. I duplicated it and renamed it, but wasn’t able to upload that. But then I opened it in Preview, and exported as a new PDF, and was able to upload that. Very weird, but glad it was no critical problem with my wordpress!
