Hi I’m brand new to the forum so I hope I’m not breaking any rules in posting this.

I have just transferred a blog that I have built on a localhost to https://www.redandblackzone.com/blog-rabz and everything appears OK until I upload an image either via the dashboard or by transferring images via FTP into the uploads folder. Only via the Dashboard the images appear to load and are listed however there are no thumb nails visible and they cannot be edited. Uploading via FTP the images are not recorded in the dashboard at all. Uploading a background into a theme the dashboard appears to accept it however it also does not appear. Updating a header for a theme does not work after pressing the “crop and Publish” button.

I have tried the following –

Altered the permissions on the upload folder to 777.

Specified both the relative (wp-content/uploads) and full URL path (https://www.redandblackzone.com/blog-rabz/wp-content/uploads) via Settings-Media in the Dashboard.

Followed the instructions from here – https://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-move-wordpress-blog-to-new-domain-or-location/

Emailed my Hosting service (smartyhost.com.au) to ask if they have heard of this problem and have any solution. Have no reply yet.

Have I not done any of these correctly maybe or is there something else to try?

    Many Thanks
    Steve

  • Since you uploaded images using using ftp thumbnails are not created so you will need regenerate thumbnails using this plugin

    Thanks govpatel

I actually tried installing that plugin and when I downloaded it wordpress asked me for my FTP details is this normal? I’m wondering since I have installed wordpress in a sub-folder if just the ftp name is correct?

Actually when I upload images via FTP the Dashboard does not recognise the images at all i.e. they are not listed in the media library. It is only when I attempt to upload images via the dashboard that the image file names appear in the media library without the thumbnails.

I suspect the files being uploaded via the Dashboard are ending up somewhere other than the uploads folder.

At the sometime the files uploaded directly via FTP are not recognised.

Possibly there are two separate issues here?

    Many Thanks Anyway
    Steve

Did you make a backup of database and transfer your wordpress from localhost or did you reinstall wordpress and host.

As you should not have any problem if you followed instructions here

    Hi govpatel

    Actually I reinstalled it anew.

Had another go at it last night (reinstalling an all new wordpress) using the instructions I found in your link and it works.

After installing I then went to upload an image and got the path error. Searching further from your link I found a slightly different solution to what I found before https://samdevol.com/wordpress-troubleshooting-permissions-chmod-and-paths-oh-my/

Instead of changing the permissions to 777 on the uploads folder it said to apply it to the wp-content folder – this did the trick and I was then able to upload inmates and I have change it back to 755.

A big thanks for your replies
    Very Much appreciated
