Cannot use insert link and insert picture tools in Visual mode

  • When I’m writing a post in visual mode the link and the insert image buttons do not work properly.

    When I click a blank pop up box appears. The box follows the mouse pointer and the only way to close the box is by closing the browser page, which means I lose the content I’ve already written.

    The link box used to work before, I’d never previously had occasion to use the picture tool. I’ve been entering the html code directly for links – no problem, but I don’t know what code WordPress uses for images and whether the image file has to be uploaded to the server where WordPress is installed.

    All the formatting buttons seem to work OK.

    I don’t mind using work-arounds if someone can give me the code info I need. Thanks.

    (BTW- tried the link tool in this visual editor box and it worked fine!)
