Cannot verify www.ads-software.com's certificate win7

    I’m getting an error saying:
    An error occurred while updating Akismet: Download failed. error:14094410:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert handshake failure

    I am running Windows 7.
    I am not using wget.
    OpenSSLInfo says I am using SSL Version OpenSSL/1.0.2e
    I am hosting my web site locally on my own computer.

    What else do I need to get WordPress to verify the www.ads-software.com’s certificate so I can update my plugins. I’d rather get it working than skip the verification process.

    This error is not specific to Akismet. It is a global problem with all plugins in WordPress. There are hundreds of people trying to resolve this same issue. There should be one post that has all the fixes to resolve this issue in WordPress.

    You can download the latest CaCert.pem and ca-bundle.crt from here:
    https://curl.haxx.se/docs/caextract.html

    Make a backup copy of each one you find just in case you have added certificates to any of them.

    I have found I have many files in windows called ca-bundle.crt.
    I have updated all of them to the latest file I have downloaded.
    I have found I have many files in windows called cacert.pem.
    I have updated all of them to the latest file I have downloaded.
