    Hi,

Canonical tag is not generated in cateogry pagination pages.
The canonical tag is only generated in the first page.

The category is index in TSF settings.

    Please have a look

    Update:

    It’s weird.

Need to set the individual setting for each category to index, then the canonical outputs.
THe default(index) does not output canonical.

But in the general setting in TSF the noindex for category is not selected.

Still looking for what causes this conflict.

BTW, is it recommend to index, follow and archive for a category page? If so, then I will force them instead of selecting default(index).

When no canonical URL is generated, the search engine will assert its own. However, TSF should generate canonical URL tags for indexable archive pages. Do you have a link for me to look at?

As for your other question about what’s recommended: Category pages are basically link aggregators and carry almost no value for visitors coming from a search engine — they want what they’re looking for immediately; not click on a link from a search results list that goes to another list where a link to an answer might be… that’s not why people use search engines. It’s why we forwent supporting archives fully until TSF v4.0 and still don’t support CPTA well: it’s futile.

    hi,

    1. can I send to you via your contact form?

    2. I fully agree.
But sometimes I would search “blog ahrefs” or “blog semrush” for a quick access. It is faster and they are also a section to display recent posts. They are acting more like a static page for news/blog section rather than a classic blog site archive which display posts by date.
For an original blog site, it has almost zero value for indexing the archive page.
But for a newer/commercial site, I think it has values. They act like a page that shows company news and other posts/blog content.

    update:

I.E. I use archive template for my blog page, but the blog page is not indexed by TSF. It would be weird to have no blog link to show as sitelinks in search result, is it?
I vote for supporting this feature. ??

    Hello!

Leaving links here is fine. But, if you wish, you can use https://tsf.fyi/contact to send a link.

But sometimes I would search “blog ahrefs” or “blog semrush” for a quick access.

That’s a very specific query, for which you know where you’ll land. No SEO (enticement for visitors) is necessary then, other than having the blog/archive indexable. Modern browsers can bypass the search engine and access the site’s location from your browsing history. Nevertheless, this is an off-topic discussion.

I’m not sure what you mean with “sitelinks” — Google gave that name to a specific list in their search results. With that, Google chooses the Sitelinks for you — you can merely influence that by prominently linking to the most important pages (navigation menu, footer). Just make sure the base page is indexable.

yes, it is the sitelink I talk about.

If you are a content-based website, I’m sure if you have a sitelink, your blog page would appear normally because of the value it has to help visitors. And google would choose to show blog in your sitelink in a priority.

if you a product based website, it is hard to say what to show as it is fully controlled by G.

Nevertheless, the topic is going off.
As long as TSF can index archive category pages, I’m fine.

Great support as always, thanks Sybre!
