    Hello.

    The Canonical URL in Search Results is totally OFF, taking the URL from the First Post in the Search Results.

    The first Page in search results is 100% wrong and in 2nd, 4rd etc etc, it adds /page/number after the url.

    Thanks

    Hi MassimoD,

    Thanks for the bug report!

    By default, the Search Pages are flagged not to be indexed by Search Engines (which is highly recommended in order to prevent duplicated content).
    Therefore, on almost all setups, the canonical URL yields no value on that page.

    In 2.6.5 I promised that they would point towards the homepage.
    <2.6.5 changelog>

    I quote:

    And last but not least, 404 pages and Search Pages now have a Canonical URL, right towards your Homepage.

    I do believe this bug is actually quite beneficial.

    The reason for this is because it will redirect users to the most likely page.
    This is because WordPress defaults to prioritizing titles and URLs in Search results.

    However, there’s much more to be discussed on this matter, and therefore I’ve moved this bug report to GitHub. This should attract more viewers and more expert opinions.

    Cheers!
