Hi, I am pretty new to WordPress and have difficulty understanding everything that I need to do but DO know that I need to secure my website. I downloaded and activated the AIO WP Security & Firewall and spent some time activating a series of basic and intermediate features (I did not touch any of the advanced features). I was very pleased with what I had done to improve the security of my site. Then when I tried to login to admin again, I couldn’t access the admin login box at all. I had no way of logging into my site. I called my web hosting company for help.

I don’t know what the customer service advisor did or why but he said that the AIO WP Security & Firewall was the problem and he deactivated and deleted the plugin (and all of the work that I had done was gone too!) Now I don’t know whether to download AIO WP again or whether to try another plugin like Wordfence etc. Please can someone help me. I don’t know what to do. Thanks.

Hi, I understand what you are experiencing especially when you are new to WordPress and security settings in WordPress. This plugin all in all works on many different server setups as you can see by the number of downloads and reviews.

If you could not log in after setting up some of the features is because A) you might have enabled one of the Brute Force feature with a unique login secret word and forgot about it. B) The other possibility it that you enabled a feature that does not work with your server setup. C) You might have other security plugins that is conflicting with this plugin. D) Another plugin might also be conflicting with this plugin.

What you can do is install the plugin again, make sure no advanced or Firewall features are enabled. Disable all your other plugins and log out see what happens. If you get locked out again you can follow these instructions to resolve the issue.

If you don’t get locked out then you know that it is highly likely a conflict with one of your other plugins. If that is the case start enabling one by one your other plugins and testing at the same time until you come across the conflicting plugin or plugins.

Report back to let us know what happened.

Thank you for replying mbrsolution. I liked AIO WP Security & Firewall once I got my head around how to use it. I found the ‘Security Meter’ to be a helpful visual aid as I activated various settings and saw my score increase. I don’t know what went wrong and my web hosting company have not been very helpful. All in all, I have lost confidence in my ability to get AIO WP Security & Firewall set up and in my web host’s willingness to help me if I get stuck.

I decided today to get iThemes Security plugin a try instead. I don’t know whether it’s as good but so far, I haven’t managed to get myself locked out! What bothers me though is that my .htaccess file now has the AOI WP Security & Firewall information in it as well as the iThemes Security information too (even though the plugin has been deleted). Should I delete the AOI WP Security & Firewall entries from my .htaccess file? Will this do any damage to anything else? I’d appreciate your further input. Thank you.

You can delete any of the htaccess rules from the AIOWP Security plugin. It won’t cause any issue at all.
