• Hi. My blog was fine day before yesterday, but today I go to my page and get this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home2/abecedar/public_html/centrifugalreflection/wp-includes/default-widgets.php on line 1034

I try to go to my wpadmin page and I get the same thing! I can’t fix anything unless I can get to my admin page.

What is wrong and how did it happen? My last post went up just fine.

    Thank you,
    ~Liliana

  • Try re-uploading the wp-includes folder.

Thank you esmi, but can I find the wp-includes when I cannot access wp-admin page? I don’t think so, but I’m new to WP.
So I thought to try installing the newest WP 2.8.6 and I get this:

    Installing WordPress 2.8.6 to https://www.centrifugalreflection.com
    Overwrite Warning, Please Confirm
It looks like there are some conflicting files in the directory you have chosen. If you choose to continue, conflicting files will be overwritten, which will destroy the original contents of those files.

    I don’t know what I should do?

Don’t do that it will possibly wipe the whole thing.

Download the the zip from this site, unzip & reupload the upload the wp-includes by ftp using filezilla or another ftp app.

If that doesn’t help try disabling your plugins by renaming the plugins folder (using your ftp app), If you get the site back name it back to plugins & ebale the plugins one by one to see if there’s one causing the issue.

Oops, nevermind about the second half of my post. I don’t want to overwrite anything because I can’t access my site it do a back-up first anyways. Duh.

Are there like 714 files in the wp-admin folder? That’s how many are uploading and I have a slow connection. I just want to make sure this sounds right?

Okay, I need to change my question to resolve this.

My blog index page is all white. The source code – there is none. How do I put my blog back up? Should I start from scratch and redo everything? I transferred five years of blog to WordPress. This is not good.

I did the upgrade to 2.8.6 and looks like I wiped everything out.

    Thanks,
    ~Lil

As long as you didn’t do the reinstall you should be able to get it back. I think it could be an issue with a plugin.

Try temporarily disabling the plugins using the method outlined above: Rename the plugins folder using your ftp app, If you get the site back change the name it back to plugins & enable the plugins one by one to see if there’s one causing the issue.

At what point did you upgrade to 2.8.6? What version were you on before?

    Hi Numeeja,

I’m having similar problem but I can access the site
    https://millsmediagroup.com

When I rename plugins folder and then change the name back all the plugins activate again and I can’t deactivate them.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Try renaming the plugins folder again. Then set up a new wp-content/plugins folder and start transferring your plugins across to the new folder one at a time – checking the site and admin area thoroughly after each plugin install & activation.

    That’s not really the problem,

I can’t actually do anything on the site, change post add post. Anything at all.

    No error messages though

millsmedia – you should start your own thread rather than diverting the focus of this thread from lilianaliliana’s issue

    I’m back!

Numeeja, I upgraded from 2.7 to 2.8.6. The WordPress blog itself is only a month old and I transferred everything from Blogger. My control panel at BlueHost said I should upgrade, but after I get this current problem fixed I hope to not upgrade for a very, very, long time. I’m sorry to say I upgraded after you told me not too. It was all gone anyways, so I figured what can I lose.

I re-uploaded wp-includes just now. But I deleted wp-includes first, and I thought the fresh upload would make its own folder. It didn’t. My new error message is:

Warning: require(/home2/abecedar/public_html/centrifugalreflection/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home2/abecedar/public_html/centrifugalreflection/wp-settings.php on line 246

Can I move those things (the wp-include stuff) into a folder? I see them in the lower right hand box of Filezilla, but I know they’re supposed to be in their own folder.

    Thanks (again).

Something is still messed up with your wp-includes. Download WordPress 2.8.6 and pull the wp-includes from it, then upload it to public_html/centrifugalreflection

Also rename the plugins folder in public_html/centrifugalreflection/wp-content.

If you installed over the top of your current installation, there is still a chance you may be able to get an export of your old posts if the old database exists, so you may want to check that.

Thank you bh_WP_fan. I’m sure I should have been able to fix it, but I couldn’t.

I’ve had to start from scratch. I have one last question for anyone?

My original problem was this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home2/abecedar/public_html/centrifugalreflection/wp-includes/default-widgets.php on line 1034

How or why did it occur and how do I ensure it doesn’t happen again?

    Thanks,
    A very weary Liliana
