• Hi! My site got hacked and my host took it down.

My web developer removed the hacked contact form plugin and restores the site but now neither of us can get into the dashboard.

Attempts bring this error message up:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /usr/www/users/musicac/bob-chappell-vo.com/wp-includes/user.php:9) in /usr/www/users/musicac/bob-chappell-vo.com/wp-login.php on line 431

    there’s another eroor message too:

ERROR: Cookies are blocked due to unexpected output. For help, please see this documentation or try the support forums.

Developer has given up and says the website neds re-bauilding from the ground up.

    Any way to avoid this?

    Thanks in advance.

  • The “headers already sent by” error is usually caused by spaces at the beginning or end of a .php file.

If your developer restored from a backup that was already corrupted, or that had modified files, this is probably the source of your error.

I would download fresh copies of WordPress, theme, and plugins (not from a backup), delete all the files on the server, and upload those new files via ftp. That should take care of the problem.
