• I thought I’d already resolved this issue. When I try to access my wp login page via:

    https://spokeandwords.com/wp-login.php

It just redirects to the public page. It did this a while back and had resolved but as of tonight it’s doing it again. Please inform me how to access my dashboard! Oh, and please write step by step instructions as if it were to teach it to your grandmother. I don’t know about web programming nor know most of the jargon.

    thanks!

  • Are you using a security plugin like Ithemes security? This sounds like a plugin misconfiguration. If you have access to Cpanel file manager, you need to look in wp-content/plugins and remove (or move) any plugins that might be causing this problem.

Please if you don’t mind tell me how to find that out. I literally can’t get into anything to even look. I don’t know what Cpanel file manager is. Unfortunately a friend set up the page on wp.org but I no longer have access to her help. I’m traveling the world by bicycle and don’t have the knowledge I need. Any step by step info you can tell me would be really helpful.

You need to start by going to spokeandwords.com/cpanel – from there you need to login using the username and password from hostgator.

Once you have logged in, look for file manager. This should take you to the public_html folder of your website. From there, click on wp-content, and then plugins.

Before you do anything else, please post a list of the plugins folders that are in that main plugin folder. I can probably tell you from that what the problem plugin is.

okay, I followed your directions and here is the list of items under plugins:

    plugins

    akismet

    backwpup

    better-wp-security

    embed-google-map

    feedburner-email-subscription

    fusion-core

    nextgen-gallery

    siteorigin-panels

    ultimate-coming-soon-page

    virtue-toolkit

    wordpress-seo

    wp-super-cache

    wpnewsman-newsletters

    Now what?

You are using iThemes Security (better-wp-security). Maybe ask your question here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/better-wp-security

So you’re saying the problem is in Ithemes Security?
As I said, I’m a luddite, so no idea what I’m doing here. I’ll post my question there.
    But what is the problem?

It has a feature that “hides” or renames your login / admin page. It’s a great feature, but can be tricky sometimes if not configured correctly ??
