• So I have an interesting problem, before beginning this post I did search the archives for help. Either I found my problem with no successful solution…or I found my problem and have “been there done that” regarding any provided advice.

I am putting up a new site for someone as I have done countless times in the past, only when I go to login to the WP admin panel I get an “Ooops, can’t connect to this site” error. Now I am familiar with propagation and know that it will either show GoDaddy info on the page OR Hostgator, not a connection error.

I get on live chat with HostGator and she send me snapshots of the site! Suggests I clear my cache and do a DNS flush, I do both…no luck.

Back to tech support and this guy sends me a link to the site through HMA, sure enough I can access it through a proxy. ??? Well this still doesn’t solve my problem and I don’t wanna work with a big ole banner covering a third of the dashboard.

The site is Priority1HomeInventory.com, this is a list of what I have done thus far.

    1. Cleared cache, history, cookies, etc…

    2. Flushed DNS in CMD prompt

    3. Tried another browser AND tried my desktop computer

    4. Unplugged modem to reset network

    5. Used Tracer in CMD prompt and HostGator said everything was fine.

    6. Made sure to automatically update DNS on my computer in case provider changed servers

    7. Tried using public IP and DNS to access

8.Disabled firewall and tried to load site

    9. Put DNS back to default with Godaddy and reinstalling after a few minutes.

    10. Tried changing the DNS to my nameservers hoping to see a different page/error

So, here I am completely frustrated after a totally wasted day! Now this site is for a customer/friend and I did notice after going to whois.com a few minutes ago that she went for the private registration and I see the privacy is turned on. I have no idea if this would have something to do with it, but I will certainly have her send me the credentials there so I can login and change the settings in an attempt to see if that helps.

Sorry for the length in this, just really tired and wanted to be “thoroughly thorough.” ??

  • The site does load for me as well.
If you ping the address what IP address does it resolve to? I get 192.254.180.255

The site is working just fine for me too. Have you tried using another computer on a different network?

Thanks to both of you. So frustrating!!!

Sandy I have done a ping and that is the IP I get….thanks anyway. EVERYTHING shows that this install/hosting is perfectly fine!!! ??

Esmi, I have tried a different computer but not network since I am home and don’t want to go play in the Holiday traffic up here. I did try resetting the network again, unplugged the modem for like five minutes and restarted. Also tried a third browser (Firefox) with no luck. It is seriously as if my server is blocking access to this one site, and yet every test I ran in DOS says everything is fine. This will be a problem that I will never forget the solution to once I find it! ??

You could also try specifying other DNS servers to use. Google offers servers as well as Open DNS.

This would tell you if it is your ISP’s DNS that has something cached.

You will have to use the IP address of the site for the first 3 or so days.

After that…the domain itself should work.

    Thank you both.

I did try Google’s public DNS which didn’t work, but since I was able to view this from my computer through HMA proxy I know it is a server issue. If I remember correctly when I used that service in the past there would not be that obnoxious banner. lol

I really appreciate everyone trying to help and will probably call my cable company tomorrow since they are my internet provider. But to invest the ten bucks OR use a free trial of a proxy service I should be able to get this site built at least.

Thanks again to all of you!!!

Just curious if this ever started working for you?
