cant access or edit my site/blog HELP!!!

    Hi,

    Let me start by saying I am a complete wordpress NOVICE! my site was previously hosted by wordpress.com and i was able to understand and use the dashboard and all the options just fine to edit and run my blog – but I was advised that if i wanted to be able to have full customization control over my blog, that after purchasing the domain I would need to point the DNS to a host server.

    So this is what I did, I pointed the DNS for my blog to bluehost (my partner has a bluehost account – so I am now hosting my blog on his account) I wasn’t able to completely transfer it over as I’ve only just purchased the domain name, and wordpress.com say you cant transfer it for 60days after purchasing a domain.

    Anyways during this weekend, I imported all my blog content onto the new self-hosted site and have been customizing the site (fonts,colours layout etc) – i must say my site has been EXTREMELY slow and some of the changes I’ve been making had not taken affect

    now this morning I tried to access my blog and have been greeted by this error message:

    The website encountered an error while retrieving https://www.astylisheventblog.com/wp-login.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

    HELP! I have no clue whats happened to my blog! i can’t access my site and or even login into my dashboard – as I said before I am a WordPress NOVICE I have been learnign what I can via youtube and such, so am really only beginning to grasp what the hell i’m doin! lol so any help would be grateful and also if you explain it in the SIMPLEST of ways lool

  • You cannot use your domain name on the new site until the domain name has been transferred. Until then, you will need to install WordPress on a temporary url provided by your hosts.

    thanks Esmi, after further googling I found that this on the wordpress help section:

    The White Screen of Death: A Plugin is causing compatibility issues. If you can access the Administration Screens try deactivating all of your Plugins and then reactivating them one by one. If you are unable to access your Screens, log in to your website via FTP. Locate the folder wp-content/plugins and rename the Plugin folder plugins_old. This will deactivate all of your Plugins.

    I followed these instructions and now my site is back up and running! thank god, have been losing my marbles
