• Hello. I upgraded to WordPress 4.2.1 on my laptop this past weekend. A few days later, I tried to edit my site using the WordPress app (up to date) on my iPad via my secure wi-fi at home. No matter what I tried to do on the iPad app, I got an “Error: Connection Timed Out” message. There was nothing wrong with the wi-fi network. After this, I could not access my web site on any device (laptop, phone, iPad) on my wi-fi network for about a half-hour. During this period, I established that my web site was not down, as I was able to access it on my phone via the cellular network.

The same thing happened last night when I tried to use the WordPress app (up to date) on my iPhone via the wi-fi at Starbucks. I got the “Error: Connection Timed Out” message on the app with everything I tried. Then I could not access my web site on my iPhone via the Starbucks wi-fi. My wife was with me, and she was able to pull up my web site on her iPhone during this time. About a half-hour later, I was able to pull up my web site on my iPhone via my home wi-fi.

It appears that some bug in the WordPress apps on my iPad and iPhone is then blocking my web site for a period. I have never seen this before. Any idea what is happening? Is it related to WordPress 4.2.1?

  • Hi, I am facing the same issue, it all started when I upgraded to the WordPress 4.2.1, the website is timing out having the same error connection timed out. I am not using the app, but im having this problem from inside wordpress and on the website. I use woocommerce. The server shuts down for 60 seconds approximatly and then comes back again. As if it’s a reboot from the server. This happens almost every 2 minutes. Anyone is facing the same issue?

Yes, Safari on iPad, but not with Crome on iPad

Jimmy_xs and finnj, thank you for the replies.

Jimmy, I am not having issues with the WordPress editor (4.2.1) on my laptop. I can readily edit my site and then access it on the laptop. The problem I am having is that I am getting connection errors on the WordPress app on my iPad and iPhone and then I cannot access my web site from any device on the same wi-fi network for about a half-hour. It is strange.

finnj, I just opened the WordPress app on my iPad and got the same connection errors as before. Then I could not access my web site via Safari or Google Chrome on my iPad. I also could not access my web site via my laptop.
