• I’m going crazy. Yesterday, I signed into my WP Admin and saw there was an update for WP. After clicking on the update, I started getting the following message when I tried to access both my website and my WP Admin:

    I was still able to access my WP dashboard. So I went in there and clicked on the little ? in the bottom right corner, thinking that would give me WP help. It doesn’t. It sent me to Jetpack support. I can’t figure out how to get a chat going with someone from WP.

    Next step, a friend of a friend is a geek and I got him into my Cpanel and he fixed whatever happened and I was able to get on my website again. Great! But now I can’t access my WP Admin. It keeps telling me I’ve entered an invalid log in name and email. Yet these are the same ones I’ve been using for a while and that the guy used to get in. He could still get in. My friend was able to get in. But on both my computers, I can’t log in. I tried changing my password, again, it says my email address is wrong. My friends tried changing the password for me and I still can’t get in. We went into Cpanel and my log in name is different than what I normally use so I tried using that name and the new password we just set up. That didn’t work. I can log into the WP Admin of a second website I have on the same WP dashboard, with the same name and password that should be working for my main website admin. Nothing has worked. My friends tried everything they could think of but no matter what, I’m the only one who can’t get into my WP Admin for that one site. I cleared the cache and cookies on both computers. Every 3 log in attempts I get locked out for 15 minutes. This is insane that I can access one WP Admin but not the other. On top of it, I can’t get a chat going with WP because my only option apparently is email even though it says I should be able to contact them via chat 24/7. This is going on 7 hours of insanity. Help, please!

    have you checked in the users table of the database connected your website to see which email is listed for your username?

    the database is normally available in a webhosting account in an area called PHPMYADMIN

    Use simple WP-Admin URL https://samanthacoleauthor.com/wp-admin.

    Lisa – yes, we looked in there and that email address is the same. We updated the password through there too and I still can’t get in.

    Mzaheerdad – Tried that several times last night and just now using the link you provided. I’m locked out again for 15 minutes as it didn’t work. I’ve cleared the cache twice since this all started.

    Same here.

    From tonight, can’t login anymore. I just get bounced back to the login panel (no error message or anything), and after a few attempts get challenged with anti-bot questions, but still unable to login.

    Another user whose machine was not logged off can still access the Control Panel fine (but he doesn’t have admin priviledges).

    I also tried creating an admin user directly in the database (using phpmyadmin) as suggested in : https://kinsta.com/blog/locked-out-of-wordpress-admin/ , but that login fails equally.

    It happened all of a sudden. I could swear I had logged in fine this morning or yesterday at the latest (I restart my browser every few hours, anyway…)

    Possibly some automatic version upgrade of something gone wrong ?

    (oh, and cache is not the issue; I tried another browser which had never logged into this WP before, same behavior)

    In case it may matter, I’m running under PHP 7.4.0 (tried to back off to 7.0.33, no change).

    Oh, and if hit “Lost your password?” I am sent (as expected) a mail with a password change link. I can change my password there, but then still cannot log in (either with the new or the old pw).

    OK, I’ve taken do hiding all my plugins (with FTP, moved them all to a separate folder), then re-enabling them one by one.

    JETPACK 8.1.1 (released last week) is the culprit (for me, for my site) !
