it’s still not resolved… i’m running out choice

Disabling the plugin by renaming the folder within wp-content/plugins worked to give me the access I needed, but (obviously) with the plugin/security disabled.

Now with the plugin disabled I am unable to A) turn off the “hide backend” feature or B) retrieve the secret URL that I apparently need but didn’t notice when I activated that feature.

Guess that leaves me looking for a new security plugin.
    “All-in-One,” here I come.

having the same issue here with 3 fo 4 sites I manage.
The one I built today with fresh downloads of everything works ok.

the ones that were working fine 4 days ago now just go to my 404 home page when I try to get to the login or admin pages.

Seems to me WP must have had an auto update in the last four days that broke something…

I did not, BTW, set iThemes security to change my login pages on these three sites, and like wolverinejoe, I had an older looking htaccess file…but if I update my htaccess with a copy of a fresh install, I still have the problem!

Same issue with one of my sites – /wp-admin and /wp-login are ignored.

Only reference in .htaccess to wp-admin is:

    # Rules to protect wp-includes
    RewriteRule ^wp-admin/includes/ - [F]

    Not using “hide backend”.

    plugin version 4.3.3; WP 3.9.1

I used FTP to change the plugin name, walked away for a few hours cuz I didn’t have a way to clear out my cache, and was able to get back in when I returned.
I promptly disabled, then deleted, then re-installed iThemes security (which had a new update to use), and all is back to normal now.

    Hey All,

We’ve been working with Wolverinejoe and Yaeer through submitted bug reports. Although the symptoms may seem the same, there are many very different issues here. My first suggestion would be to update to the most current version and see if that helps. If it doesn’t help, please start a new thread.

@wrdprs2014 – Could you bump your bug report? I don’t see anything associated with your username.

@gregbarr23 – If you activated the Hide Backend feature and didn’t change the custom slug, the default is “wplogin”.

    Forum Welcome

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

In case this helps anyone (and hopefully the dev)… I was having the same problem as the original poster, but figured out the issue and was able to fix it. (Note: Yes, I’m running the latest versions of WP and the plugin.)

My hidden login area “slug” has always contained a combination of upper and lowercase letters. When I tried accessing it today, I got the “not found” page, just like everyone else who has posted here. Well, instead of changing the plugin folder name to disable it, I opened the .htaccess file, removed the section of code that pertains to hiding the backend, saved it, and then I was able to login using the default WP slug. Once inside the plugin settings I immediately saw the problem: my original hidden slug had been converted to all lowercase letters. So I disabled the hide backend feature, then enabled it again (so it would replace the htaccess code that I had removed), and then tried logging in using the all lowercase version of my custom slug—and it worked.

So… If the people who are having this problem are also using upper & lowercase slugs, then I’m betting something happened in a recent update that is causing capitalization/case to be ignored. I use this plugin on several other sites, but the slugs are all lowercase — and I haven’t had login issues with them.
